What do you make of the new Tiger Woods Nike ad?

The return of Tiger Woods to golf at the US Masters must have attracted media attention and boosted the number of television viewers watching golf. But what does the latest Tiger Woods Nike advertisement do for either the Nike brand or the Tiger Woods brand? Well you could say that the Tiger Woods brand was already sullied, thats why the Nike ad needed the “clean” fatherly image and advice of Tiger’s father as the voice. And, Nike, well they probably don’t care, the more controversy the better. As long as they get attention.

Click here to view the embedded video.

Is this what we have to get used to watching Tiger staring back at us, whilst various family members do his endorsements for him? Using his deceased father’s voice is going a bit far!

Just come out in the open, face up to your past, show you’re only human and talk Tiger. Don’t just stare at us looking solemn and sullen. People will forgive you and you will still be idolised, just be brave enough to face up to the public.

Phil Mickelson won the 2010 Masters golf tournament for the third time, with a brilliant final round 67, to close out the third round leader Lee Westwood. Tiger Woods was disappointed with his performance at Augusta, but given that it was his first appearance after a long lay off following all his personal problems & scandals, finishing 4th isn’t bad. Sex therapy obviously doesn’t affect your golf game too badly!

It was an emotional finish for Mickelson as his wife, Amy Mickelson, managed to meet her husband at the final hole despite feeling the affects of undergoing breast cancer treatment.

Mickelson’s birdie on the 12th hole and approach shot on the 13th, showed his true Champion qualities. Mickelsen’s experience of when to take risks paid off and from this moment he managed to open a slight lead on Lee Westwood, which was enough to give him victory by three shots.

Tiger Woods return to 2010 Masters was a bit of an up an down affair (sorry…) as inconsistency let him down, I suppose that is to be xpected given Tiger’s prolonged layoff from golf to sort out his personal life.

On a dramatic weekend with the Polish President plane crash, it was good to follow the Masters and take one’s mind off this terrible tragedy. On their way to Smolensk, Russia, President Kaczinsky and top delegates were going to war memorial and unfortunately due to bad weather and probably pilot error their plane crashed.

Three of his best movies stand out for me – Dead Poets Society, Good Morning Vietnam and Mrs Doubtfire. He is also known for his stand up comedy, this skit on golf, really cracks me up…

Tiger Woods came out of hiding last Friday and apologised for his infidelity. There is no doubt that he has had to endure a lot of personal hardship and adjustment in the past few months. However, the public is still critical over whether the apology is genuine or another publicity stunt. The pressure of the public and media scrutiny on his private life must have been immense.

Click here to view the embedded video.

Maybe Tiger Woods should just wait until it all dies down and people ask, “Tiger who?”…

Reading the comments that have come through, there is no denying that what Tiger did was wrong, but perhaps he should have faced up to his indiscretions, apologised publicly a lot earlier and just got on with his life. Yes, he is a celebrity, a role model, a public figure… but the majority of the public dont really care or they just want to see him play golf and it doesn’t matter what he does in his private life. Some may even see him as a hero for what he did.

Its a bit sad that one person’s affairs can be dragged out in the open for public scrutiny and judged by the public. But maybe an example has to be made of this episode so that others can learn from it.

The skeptics out there are saying that his apology was timed just before the start of the World Matchplay Golf Championships sponsored by Accenture. Perhaps it was also to get media attention towards Tiger’s comeback before the Masters. Who knows? Maybe the best thing is for Tiger to finish his sex therapy and get back onto the golf course as quickly as possible.
