Craps vs. Roulette

Posted on February 16, 2010 by Daniel

You’re in the casino with your last $100 and you want to play a classic table game. You’re tired of blackjack and poker is not for you. It’s down to craps vs. roulette. Which one should you play? Assuming you know how to play both games, there are a few considerations to keep in mind to help you decide which game is for you.

Craps vs. Roulette: Odds
If getting the best odds is your goal, craps is your game. While the odds on roulette are not bad relative to some casino games, providing that you are playing with a single zero wheel, they can’t beat the odds you can get playing craps. This is not true for all craps bets. Some of the craps bets are the worst in the casino. However, if you stick to playing Pass/Don’t Pass and Come/Don’t Come, with as much in true odds as the casino will allow, as well as occasionally buying or placing individual numbers, you are giving yourself a much better chance against the House edge than roulette offers.

Craps vs. Roulette: Game Speed
Both games move fast, but craps at a live casino moves much faster. In addition, you may find yourself making more bets than you expected, since during a hot roll you will probably be covering a lot of numbers, and it all may come to a grinding halt when the player sevens out. Roulette action is a little less crazy, and you’ll probably feel more in control over your bets and the fluctuations in your bankroll.

Craps vs. Roulette: Action
Craps is famously a high action game. While a packed roulette table can offer a lot of excitement as well, nothing in the gambling world compares to a crowded craps table, with chips flying through the air in every conceivable direction, players screaming, begging, praying and cajoling with every roll of the dice, and with the shooter being a superhero one second and a huge goat the next. If high octane action is your thing, you’ll definitely want to shoot for craps. If you’ve never played one of these games, you should give both a shot at least once. But if you’re on your last stack of chips, this should give you a better idea of where you will want to risk it.
