Gears of War 3 is being developed by Epic Games and will be released in April 2011, completing the Xbox “Gears of War” trilogy.  Cliff Bleszinski made the announcement on Jimmy Fallon’s US Late Night talk show.  Titled ‘Ashes to Ashes’, it features a new mutation of the locust, called Lambent.  This successful Xbox game will now feature more fire power in double barrelled shotguns.

Exclusive to Xbox the “Gears of War 3″ game is being developed by Epic.  It is a battle for human survival and tells the story of Marcus Fenix and his fellow warriors in Delta Squad.  Full-on battles in “Gears of War 3″ will take place between Delta Squad, the mutant locust Lambent and the locust horde.  As Marcus and his men fight for their survival.

Sony has revealed its answer to Nintendo Wii at the Game Developers Conference, San Francisco.  The Sony Move controller looks similar to the Nintendo Wii controller, it just has a colored ball at the top.

Gamers at the Conference didn’t seem that excited by the Sony Move, it doesn’t seem any better than Nintendo Wii. It seems like Sony are just trying to play catchup, as PlayStation 3 sales lag Nintendo Wii.  There doesn’t seem to have been a real leap in motion gaming technology by Sony.  Perhaps we will have to wait for Microsoft Xbox to do this.

Sony Move Controller - PlayStation

Nintendo Wii’s sales are by far the market leader with 67.5 million units sold, Microsoft Xbox 39m and Sony PlayStation with 33m units sold. You can’t blame Nintendo’s competitors for wanting some of the market share and getting in on the motion gaming action, by developing there own motion controller.

Apparently Microsoft are developing a controller free system known as Natal, later this year.

Sony have timed the release of new Move games that use the new controller.

The reviews for James Cameron’s Avatar: The Game in  both XBox & PS3 have not been that complimentary. Not that the game is bad, its just that there is nothing that extraordinary about the game.  You would think after all the hype about the movie, that developers would have jumped on the bandwagon.  Perhaps they have sacrificed creativity for speed to market.  My rating for the game is an average 6/10.

There is not enough creativity around the action and after playing the game for a couple of hours you will become bored.  A lot of effort has gone into the design to create Pandora.  Even if  you change between being with the RDA and being an avatar on the side of the Na’vi, there is not enough of a storyline.

The graphics of Avatar: The Game are brilliant, taking you into the alien world of Pandora.  The alien creatures are really well done and you may just run through the lush alien landscape to experience as much of Pandora as you can.  Others will enjoy the more destructive part of the game, blowing away alien creatures!

But heh dont get me wrong, its still a good game and will keep you occupied.  It just didn’t grab me and make me go WOW!

While there are many possible entries into various types of video game genres, there is only one name that is synonymous with console football video gaming: Madden. There have been other football games on the video game market over the years, but hardened gamers know that if they’re not playing Madden, they’re not playing the best.

What’s New with Madden 10
Each year, a new Madden game is released. One of the purposes of this is to introduce the new players who have come into the league since the last game came out, but another is to upgrade and enhance the playing engine and features. In Madden 10, this is done through the “Pro-Tak” system.

In the old Madden, making contact with an opposing player was usually enough to result in both players heading straight for the ground for a tackle. With Pro-Tak, every contact is an adventure. Your tackle will change depending upon who is hitting whom, where on the body the hit comes and where during the play it happens. Each different type of tackle brings with it different tackle animations that enhance the realism of the game as well as possibly requiring some strategic adjustments.

Playing Madden 10
The Pro-Tak enhancements change many aspects of the game, including the running game and line protection. You’ll have to play it yourself to see how, which for Madden enthusiasts, who are always looking for a new twist, will be a welcome change. Most football gamers will definitely find that upgrading to Madden 10 is well worth it.

For first person shooters in the fighting video games genre, the Call of Duty series is tough to beat. InfinityWard’s collection of lifelike battle video games has wowed gamers for years, and the excitement continues with the sixth installment in the series, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
In Modern Warfare 2, you play the part of different soldiers fighting with a special unit called Task Force 141 and the U.S. armed forces to defeat a Russian terrorist threat. The game finds you fighting in a variety of settings all over the globe, including Afghanistan and Washington D.C.

The Call of Duty series is famed for its realistic graphical renderings of military battles, and Modern Warfare 2 is no exception. From the first person perspective of a soldier, you will feel every explosion, every spatter of blood, every bullet as it whizzes by your head, inches from taking your life.

Goals of Modern Warfare 2
Your goals in Modern Warfare 2 vary depending on where you are and who you are controlling. You may be asked to hold a strategic point, kill a group of enemies, or simply make it to a target location. Each goal will require different strategies to achieve, but all will require you to kill whoever is necessary to avoid being killed yourself.

To add to the excitement of the main objectives, Modern Warfare 2 offers side missions in the form of Special Ops, missions independent of the main story that you can tackle as a single player or in cooperative mode. Successful completion of some of these missions will unlock more missions.

There’s plenty of multiplayer action too, and you can compete against your friends at home or random strangers all around the world online in a variety of games like Capture the Flag and Search and Destroy.

Playing Modern Warfare 2
If you have been a fan of the Call of Duty series up until now, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is a game you cannot miss. Even if you’re new to the series, as long as you’re a fan of first person shooters, you’re bound to fall in love with the detailed story and elaborate graphics of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

Fans of the extremely popular Left 4 Dead game have been eagerly awaiting the release of Left 4 Dead 2, and they will not be disappointed. While the second entry in the zombie crushing series from Valve is very different in many ways from the first, it is a thrilling and extremely engaging game in its own right. What’s New with Left 4 Dead 2
The biggest addition to the Left 4 Dead 2 game is in its use of weapons. No longer are you limited to only the most basic tools of survival. In Left 4 Dead 2, almost anything can become a weapon, from a baseball bat to a six pack of soda, not to mention a crowbar, machete, frying pan, police baton or whatever else happens to be lying around. You’ll need every bit of help you can get to ward off all those waves of attacking zombies.

There are great animations for this game, allowing view your to dismemberment and destruction of zombies in all sorts of new and interesting ways, and with five different campaigns full of life-preserving missions to complete, there’s plenty to see and keep you occupied in this game as well.

The motto for Left 4 Dead 2 might be “nowhere to hide.” This game seriously discourages holing up in a corner somewhere to regroup and pick off zombies as they wander by. In this game, you’ve got to keep moving, seek higher ground when possible, and get whatever assignment you are tasked with done. If you don’t, you’ll be zombie bait quicker than you imagine.

Single Player vs. Multi Player Left 4 Dead 2
With a similar core cast of four human characters as in Left 4 Dead 1, this game has some great opportunities for cooperative multi-player action, but you can have hours of fun playing this game as a single player, interacting with a team of NPCs, as well. Of course, there are some multi-player games specifically designed to let you and your buddies compete with each other throughout the Left 4 Dead world as well.

Imagine a heavy metal odyssey starring Jack Black as a roadie turned medieval warrior. What else could you want from a video game? You can get all this and more from Brutal Legend, one of the latest offerings from Vivendi and Double Fine Productions, for PlayStation 3.

Brutal Legend
In Brutal Legend, you are Eddie Riggs, a roadie who finds himself transported into a magical sword and sorcery world (“The Age of Metal”), where he must battle a wide variety of obstacles and challenges in order to achieve his goal of defeating the evil Dovilicus. These obstacles include the disposal of “lesser beings” like glam rockers and Emo kids. While there is traditional third person combat action, there is also a real time strategy element to the game, so be aware of what you are in for before you purchase and/or sit down to play this game.

Brutal Legend Breakdown
A combination of Grand Theft Auto meets World of Warcraft meets Civilization meets (Metal) Guitar Hero, Brutal Legend has something for everybody, and there’s surely enough to keep any player entertained for hours. If you like hard rocking and hacking and slashing, Brutal Legend is definitely for you.

As Eddie, you ride around in The Deuce, a tricked out vehicle befitting a metal god, and explore the free-roam world while you complete missions on your road to confronting Emperor Dovilicus, played by Tim Curry. Along the way you’ll get a little help from Ozzy Osbourne as the “Guardian of Metal”. There’s plenty of blood, blades and babes for you to enjoy along to a hard driving heavy metal soundtrack. The real time strategy element involves you collecting “fan energy” on stage and using it to build an army to help you achieve your goals.

Playing Brutal Legend
While the game play itself is fairly standard, the different types of missions, different styles of missions, great and compelling graphics and awesome music will more than make up for it for most players. If you like Jack Black, or Heavy Metal, or hack and slash fantasy games, you’ll probably enjoy Brutal Legend, and if you like all three, you’re going to love Brutal Legend.
