Part of the fun of consoles like the Xbox 360 is the ability to play with (or against) people from all over the world using the Internet. The Xbox360 features “Xbox Live” as their Internet platform. Members can join Xbox Live and play in a shared game world or post high scores for others all over the world to try to beat. Face it, when you and your friends are sitting around the game console, it’s usually a competition. It may be a friendly competition, but it’s a competition nonetheless. You want to be the one to post the highest score. This is usually more the case when you and your buddies are in the same room than when you’re playing online and your friends are not, or vice versa.

Just as Apple CEO Steve Jobs was about to unveil the iPad, Hewlett-Packard snuck in first with an interview of their CTO Phil McKinney, talking about the HP Slate, developed jointly with Microsoft. Although HP did not say when the Slate tablet PC would be ready, he did say they had delayed producing it to ensure the price was affordable.
The iPad looks impressive, not sure that I would like to haul around, what is essentially a large iPhone. The iPad will be available in March, not too long too wait. Check out the video of Steve Jobs going through the functions of the iPad.

Remember that episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation where the crew was obsessed with a game where you had to get a ball into a cup using just your mind? Well now, science fiction is a reality with MindFlex, by Mattel. As strange as it may be to believe, the future is now with this game where you actually move a ball with your mind.
MindFlex
Fortunately, this item is not a veiled mind control device like the one featured on the show. It is, however, an engaging game that can be enjoyed by the whole family. As soon as you open the box, you’ll feel like you’ve been transplanted into the future, as you don a headset that is designed to actually read your brain waves. Once the headset is in place, your goal is to actually levitate a ball through an obstacle course on the game board using only your mind (with a little help from a fan located within the game console).
Playing MindFlex
Mindflex can be enjoyed by people of all ages, and needs only the headset, game console, foam balls (four included) and batteries (four “C” batteries for the console and three “AAA” batteries for the headset) to play. You do not need any particular level of intelligence to play, only an ability to focus and concentrate. Once the novelty of moving things with your mind wears off, you have five different game courses to choose from. One to four players can compete and the game comes with a variety of difficulty settings.
More on MindFlex
MindFlex is designed by Mattel and available from Amazon.com. It is playable by ages eight and up and requires no special setup other than a screwdriver to access the battery compartment and put in the batteries. If you’re looking for the perfect gift for your favorite game enthusiast, you can bet that MindFlex will be a game unlike anything he or she has on the shelf, and the recipient will be amazed at the ability to play a game using the power of his or her mind!

In response to the success of Amazon’s Kindle, Barnes & Noble has struck back with “Nook,” its own take on the e-book reader. If early sales are any indication, Nook is going to provide Kindle with some serious competition, as Nook orders for the holidays have already reached capacity. Are we looking at the future here?
